On December 22, 2011, the U.S. Court of Federal Claims gave approval to a class-action settlement victory for veterans and their families. As a result of the settlement proposed by The National Veterans Legal Services Program (NVLSP), the U.S. military agreed to pay lifetime disability retirement benefits to 1,029 of the Iraq and Afghanistan veterans discharged with PTSD who were denied benefits. The Department of Defense (DoD) recently launched an interactive PTSD simulation developed by the National Center for Telehealth and Technology (T2). The simulation, called the "Virtual PTSD Experience," allows combat veterans dealing with PTSD and their families to learn about the causes and symptoms of PTSD and the resources that are available to them.

One of the official USMC websites offers an extensive document containing medical, behavior and mental health resources as well as educational resources for Marines and their families. The document provides phone numbers and websites for each resource and is an excellent go-to guide for any Marine or family member in need of assistance.

An organization called the US Marine Corps Wounded Warrior Regiment (WWR) offers support and assistance for wounded, ill and injured Marines, Sailors attached to or in support of Marine units, and their family members throughout all phases of recovery. The Wounded Warrior Call Center provides 24/7 assistance to all WII Marines, whether they were injured in combat or elsewhere, at (877) 487-6299. The WWR also offers non-medical care around the clock. Marines can utilize the call center for support as they return to duty or transition to civilian life.

Veterans and military families face many challenges in the transition from deployment back to civilian life. In order to support them, Strength at Home is offering two programs to help veterans strengthen their relationships, improve conflict management skills, as well as increase relationship satisfaction. These programs are part of federally funded research projects. There are sessions for couples as well as veterans only. The groups are held at:
