Many of our returning service members and veterans are adjusting to life back home. For some, the road is a little smoother, but for others it is particularly difficult, as they have brought home with them the fallout of stress and traumatic experience. Some will be diagnosed with post traumatic stress (PTSD) disorder and will suffer emotionally and psychologically with the wounds of war. All too often these same veterans will turn to alcohol and drugs to try to manage their symptoms of PTSD. This clinical training will explore the relationship between PTSD and substance use and the treatments that are available to support those veterans in need.
Part of the "Treating the Invisible Wounds of War" series, a collaboration among the Coming Home Project, UCSF Health Effects of War Grand Rounds, and UCTV.
