And How to Weather the Storm

Must Read for Multiple Deployers, June 6, 2009
Downrange again? Me, too. It sucks and I'm ready to get back home... so I can start counting the days until I have to leave again!
Will the war end any time soon? Will the ops tempo slacken so we can spend more time with our families? We can hope... but we should prepare to go back out again. This book helps.
Dealing with both the stress of leaving and the stress of returning, Dr. Cantrell's third book on the subject is another home run. Giving an honest portrayal of troop psychology that few who've never served could ever grasp. Cantrell offers real advice on how to cope and how to help your loved ones cope too.
There's no easy fix for the effects of multiple deployments... other than separation from the service. If that's not an option or a desire, then consider buying this book to help you get through the rough times. Cantrell is an amazingly caring person who understands the situation and doesn't try to sugar coat it. She also uses her expertise to teach leadership at military bases to watch out for the effects of sending their troops back out, over and over. In short, the lady's got a lot of heart.
Even if you don't want to buy it for yourself, check it out for your
loved ones and use it as a guide to improve your relationships with them. Don't let deployment be an excuse to let your relationships fall apart!
